Manalapan Mall which now has a life as a big box center called the EpiCenter

 Another of the malls that had a short life as a mall turned into a big box center just like Seaview square 


Manalapan Mall opened in 1971 with Steinbach as an anchor with only 20 something stores in the mall section with plans to expand and add more anchors but never came to reality I read Macy's and Lord and Taylor were part of the plans. By the early 1990's, Freehold Raceway Mall opened just a 5 min drive down rt 9 and that spelled doom for the small Manalapan Mall and closed by the end of the decade and demolished. Also Steinbach met its fate in 1995 as it was replaced with a Value City in 1996. As the Value City stayed open, A big box center called the Manalapan EpiCenter replaced the Manalapan Mall adding New Jersey's first ever Wegman's in 2001, Target, Marshalls which moved from Raceway Malls lifestyle center and also a Wiz was there in the early years. Also a Verizon store was added as well as Gary Michael Jewelers and a Applebee's. The Value City Closed in 2008 and is now a P.C. Richards in the old Steinbach building along with Homesense and a Bonefish Grill restaurant. 

The former Steinbach store another store I went to a ton of times growing up in Freehold . Now currently a PC Richard’s, Bonefish grill and homesense all in on building.

The old Channel 9 WOR-TV

 Back before the present day of My9 or UPN 9, There was WOR-tv 9. It was based in NYC before crossing the Hudson over to nearby Secaucus, Nj where the station was still good in the early years of  it coming to NJ but times would be changing by the mid 80's as a additional W was added and know as WWOR tv as it ended the RKO era of the channel changes continued in the 1990's as the channel took on a network The UPN United Paramount Network which lasted into the mid 2000's. Also in the late 90's Fox 5 WNYW aquired WWOR as a secondary channel which still goes to the present day. But the old days of Channel 9 were great as a kid growing up in Central Jersey can't forget Romper Room with Miss Molly or the Million Dollar Movie with the Gone with the wind theme as you saw the sights of NYC from the Roosevelt Island tram to Times Square then for you late night buffs on a Saturday Night, there was wrestling then Fright Night at 1am which that intro woulda gave me nightmares a...

Garden State Plaza almost 70 years of success

 One of New Jersey's largest and successful shopping malls going strong almost 70 years later and the first to open as surburbia started growing in the 1950's History of Westfield Garden State Plaza In Paramus The shopping center opened on May 1, 1957 developed by R.H. Macy's opening anchors were Bamberger's and was a open air shopping center in its early days. JC Penny and Gimbels would join the mall in 1958. As the decades went, the mall became enclosed in phases from the 1970's to the 1980's with it being complete. The malls first anchor change came in 1986 as Bamberger's became Macy's. In 1987, Gimbels went out of business and later in the fall of 87 Hahne's opened in the old Gimbels building which was short lived when they saw their fate in 1989.
