Neshaminy Mall next to meet the wrecking ball??
Crossing state lines into Pennsylvania to check out a mall I went to one time a decade ago but could I be too late since I heard this mall is next to meet the wrecking ball. Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem, PA
History of Neshaminy
Neshaminy Mall opened in 1968 in Bensalem, PA a half hour drive from Philadelphia. The opening anchors were Strawbridge and Clothier and Sears. In 1975, the mall had a expansion added a third anchor which was the Lit Brothers or Lits. This store was short lived and the first anchor change as Lits closed 2 years later and replaced with Pomeroy's which lasted a full decade and replaced with The Bon Ton which also had a short life at the shopping center as Boscov's would replace it in 1995. The next anchor change didn't come until 2006 When the Strawbridge brand was retired by Macy's after their acquisition of May department stores company which eliminated all the chains under their portfolio except for Lord and Taylor which was sold to Hudson Bay of Canada. Macy's would close in 2017.Sears closed in 2019 leaving just Boscov's and the mall started its rapid decline with only the covid 19 pandemic putting the nail in the coffin. In 1998, A 24 screen AMC theatre was added at the mall which is the largest AMC theatre I ever heard of. This malls future has none as its been sold and set to be demolished leaving just Boscov's and AMC what exactly will happen to the mall?? unclear
