Newport Centre Mall how is this mall looking today in 2026. it's looking great
Newport Centre in Jersey City The mall in the city sitting across from Lower Manhattan.
Newport Centre Mall opened in Jersey City in November 1987 in the Newport section of town which is surrounded by high rise buildings near the Hudson waterfront. The grand opening of the mall was star filled on day one from Hollywood and important State politicians as Sen Frank Lautenberg and then Governor Thomas Kean participated in the ribbon cutting ceremonies. Also former Tonight Show host and Car guy Jay Leno was there as well as Keshia Knight Pulliam aka Rudy Huxtable from the Cosby Show and Allison Smith who was on Kate and Allie. Opening anchors were Sears and Stern's. JC Penny would join the mall towards the end of the decade in 1989. Stern's would be retired by Macy's in 2001 and they took over the Stern's location. and Macy's would build a new store at the mall. So Kohl's would open a store in the former Stern's building as the 4th Anchor in 2006. also a AMC theatre is inside the mall. Sears would close in 2024 as the last Sears to operate in New Jersey, end of an era entirely. The space will be split between Primark and Dick's Sporting House of Sport also I heard a Dave and Busters was coming but doesn't seem like it. This mall is in a Urban Enterprise zone in which sales tax on goods are lowered to 3% than the States usual sales tax. The mall also sits at the start of the Holland Tunnel and also has a parking deck in which you pay to park. You can also access the mall by the PATH train which has a station nearby or NJ Transit light rail
